Unhuman race; Kaolinean

Kaolinean (or Kaolinean people), are unhuman race mostly spread to the southeast parts of the Southern Talais. The race has few dosen of small, individual governments, that all have their own (albeit somewhat similar) cultures and habits.

Appearance:

Skin:
The skin of Kaolinean people is quite thik and leathery-like compared to human's. It usually also feels cool for the touch due to Kaolineans exothermic nature.
In certain places like in the center of torso, on tip of the fingers and toes, as well as around the face the skin turns into a though keratin strukture to protect the easily damaged parts of the body.

Kaolinean skin colour varies in shades of brown, grey, greenish-brown and bluish-grey.

Markings:
Kaolinean have markings around their body, in forehead frill, tentacles, shoulders, lower parts of pectoralis major, upper center of abdomen, crotch, knees and elbow. Some individuals have also coloured tips of fingers.
The coloration of these markings vary basically in all rainbow colours, but shades of green, blue, red and purple are most common.
On Kaolinean males these markings are full flared all the time, while female coloration only comes up when exited, andgry or frighten.
The Omni have only very faded markings or not markings at all.

Tentacles:
The Kaolinean people have tentacle-like appeadanges growing out from their head. This soft mass is remnant of the aquatic-state when they worked as living seine, collecting small fish, mollusc and other edible particles from the water.
Most of the adult Kaolinean loose the control over their tentacles little by little upon reaching the terrestial state, which leads to the atrophying of the tentacles and to partial paralysing of said body parts.

This soft tissue is one of the most vulnerable parts of the Kaolinean body. The tentacles are very sensitive for drying, and so the Kaolinean usually cover them from the sunlight with scarf or veil, exept for the two that grow on the each sides of the head, just behind the spikes framing the head.
These two tentacles work as baits in Kaolinean aquatic-state, alluring small prey close to their face (or the reach of other tentacles) with their self-illuming light. Even on a adult Kaolinean the heads of these two tentacles glow fluorescent ligh.

Kaolinean's vestibular system is also located to these head-side tentacles, making them very sensitive area. In fights it is deeply scorned upon to grab on these, much like kicking under the belt among the humans, as it immediately makes Kaolinean unable to function for a long time.
The Trivora, of course, make an exeption in this as they mostly aim this area while battling with their own kin in serious fights.

Eyes:
The iris of the Kaolinean people covers the most of the visible eye, leaving just a very little if none of the sclera visible.
Kaolinean irises are of all the colours of the rainbow, but shades of green and yellow are most common.
The pupil of the kaolinean is usually very small due their naturally nocturnal behaviour, which along with large iris makes the Kaolinena eyes sometimes look pupilless.
The delicate eyes are protected by spikes growing from the place where the human eyebrows would grow. These spikes consist of keratin and not of bone like the bigger spikes framing the head.

Forehead Frill and Spikes:
The head of the Kaolinean people is framed by frill that grows from the forehead and of fife spikes growing from the each side of it. These protuberances grow stright from the scull, being seamless part of the scull-bone. The frill as well as the spikes arch slightly backwards, creating somewhat a protecting "helmet" for the soft tissue of tentacles.

In acient times Kaolinean males are assumed to ram eachother with their heads during the courting.
These days, symbolic push of the heads together between the groom and his friends is part of the wedding ceremony, but of course this is no real form of fight.

Reproduction:
Kaolinean females lay their eggs after two months of producing them, in series of three. The eggs are somewhat thought skinned, but need to be laid in warm, secure place. Traditionally, this place was warm sand-bed, but with developing of technology, it is common to use custom-made "egg-beds" these beds consistent of alchemic, nutritive gel that warms of cools as needed on it's own accord. The use of this gel also lovers significantly the risk of the Trivora hatching, while still alloving the evolvingof Omni.
About four to fife months after the laying, the young Kaolinean hatch and move to water, usually gently arried by the parents, but sometimes, if the fitting tank is assembled in contact with the egg-bed, by their own accord.

During the hatching it can finally be seen if the children are male, female, omni, or in rare, unfortunate situations, trivora.

The aquatic state of the Kaolinean people lasts three years, during which they develope the four limbs, lungs and other needed organs needed for terrestial life of adult Kaolinean. They also loose the tail that they have during the hatching.

The Kaolinean people reach maturity in ten years after the aquatic-state and become legally adult in the eyes of the most Kaolinean societies after thirteen years after aquatic state.
